Fady Dagher officially took the reins of the Montreal Police Department when he was sworn in at Bonsecours Market on Thursday.

Interim director Sophie Roy thus handed over the powers to Mr Dagher before Mayor Valérie Plante and an audience of Montreal police officers.
He thus became the 42nd director of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
After being announced last November, Fady Dagher’s appointment was ratified by Quebec a month later.
Former head of the Longueuil Agglomeration Police (SPAL), he began his career in 1992. Known for his community approach, he did not hide his intention to resort to repression when necessary.
