Facebook bans LibsOfTikTok ‘forever’ after fighting Boston Children’s Hospital

The infamous “Libs of TikTok” account was banned from Facebook after the account recently published posts about a Boston hospital that provides “gender-affirming care.”

The person behind the account — previously revealed to be a Brooklyn real estate agent, Chaya Raichik — announced Wednesday that she was no longer able to access the account.

she wrote: “They suspended our account and we immediately appealed. Within 2 minutes they replied that we are suspended forever. “I am confident that we have received a full and fair assessment.”

Raichik clarified that while the page is indeed still active on Facebook, she cannot access it and apparently never will be able to again.

A spokesman for Meta, which owns Facebook, did not respond to a request from for comment.

The ban apparently comes after Boston Children’s Hospital claimed to face harassment and threats over its Gender Multispecialty Service Program (GeMS), which it claims provides gender-affirming care to “eligible adolescents and young adults”.

The hospital has been falsely accused of performing hysterectomies on underage children as part of this care.

Boston police told the Washington Post that they were investigating potential threats to the hospital. Twitter has also said they are looking into it, according to NBC News.

Liberals have urged Twitter to do the same as Facebook.

Erin Reed, who describes herself as an “activist, content creator, queer lawmaker, mom and D&D DM,” tweeted to 70,000 followers, “They are waging a violent campaign against children’s hospitals and are shutting down the service. They are called up by the national media. TWITTER MUST FOLLOW or it will be complicit in what is to come.

Alejandra Caraballo, podcast host and clinical instructor at Harvard Law School, wrote: “Facebook has permanently suspended Libs of Tiktok. If even meta steps in to act, you know it’s bad. Your move @TwitterSafety’.

Much of the controversy stems from a claim made to LibsofTikTok that the hospital was offering such treatment in a still public space tweet from 11.08.

The claims are based on videos from the hospital’s YouTube account discussing medical care for transgender patients. The video has since been removed from the Boston Children’s YouTube page.

The story resonated with activists criticizing gender-affirming child care, even going so far as former President Trump adviser Stephen Miller called it “monstrous.”

Miller then asked, “How does someone involved in this still have a medical license?”

Podcaster David J. Harris called one of the videos “purely evil” and claimed to have been underage hysterectomies.

Activists Christopher Rufo and Matt Walsh also slammed the hospital, with Walsh saying, “Every sane and decent person in the country needs to unite against it.”

Boston Children’s Hospital is proud to be “home to the first transgender health program for children and adolescents in the United States.”

According to Vice, posters on right-wing forums have allegedly even called for the “execution” of the doctors and urged people to call the hospital.

Boston Children’s told in a statement on Wednesday: “The comment and the online attention that followed was based on the false statement that Boston Children’s performs genital surgery on minors in connection with transgender nursing.”

“For hysterectomies and other genital surgeries performed as part of gender-affirming treatment, Boston Children’s requires that a patient be capable of self-consent. Age 18 is used to reflect the standard age of majority for medical decisions. Boston Children’s does not perform genital surgery as part of gender-affirming care on patients under the age of 18.’

Several fact-checkers, including PolitiFact and Lead Stories, both debunked the idea that they perform hysterectomies on children.

The video does not indicate that the procedures are available for underage patients.

An employee confirmed to NBC News that the hospital had sent an email to staff that would advise them on how to respond to such threats.

The hospital’s statement continued, “We are deeply concerned by these attacks on our clinicians and staff, which are fueled by misinformation and a lack of understanding and respect for our transgender community.”

Libs of TikTok eventually claimed the hospital’s denial was a lie, saying they had materials allowing girls to have surgery as early as the age of 17 in a substack post.

The account wrote, “Although I never mentioned a specific age, Boston Children’s does offer ‘gender-affirming’ surgeries for minors. After the videos went viral, they quietly updated their website. They changed the required age for vaginoplasty from 17 to 18, adding, “We only perform gender-affirming hysterectomies on patients who are 18 years of age or older.”

The hospital responded to Raichik’s claims with a statement to : “For a surgical consultation you must be 17 years old and between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of the surgery. We have since updated this to reflect the practice protocols we have always adhered to (no surgery under the age of 18).

They added that Boston Children’s “requires” a consenting patient, and the law states that 18 years old is the standard age.

Trans activists have said Boston Children’s has been targeted in the past, with Health Liberation Now’s Lee Leveille saying they were harassed for “gender-affirming care” in 2021.

The FBI said it foiled a planned cyberattack on Boston Children’s earlier this year by hackers working for the Iranian government.

The hospital itself says it is “proud” to be the only hospital in the country offering this type of care.
