A former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) agent shared some safety tips for solo travelers on social media. Among the guidelines, one in particular caught the attention of Internet users: the safest floors to be on.
In a video posted on TikTok (see here) that has garnered more than 524,000 views, Tracy Walder said that working in U.S. intelligence agencies gave him a diverse knowledge of travel. For example, she explained that it is ideal for tourists to stay between the third and sixth floors of a hotel.

“The safest floors are the third to sixth floors. You don’t want to be on the ground floor. If they put you on the ground floor, ask for a change,” Tracy warned. “The reason for this is that it is difficult for someone to climb. At the same time, it is largely easily accessible in the event of an emergency, such as a fire.”
The woman, who has traveled to more than 10 countries, also mentioned other important rules for solo travelers. “Lock the security lock. It’s the first thing I do after entering the room. And while you’re in the room, keep it closed. There’s no reason to keep it open,” he said.

Next, Tracy recommended traveling with a rubber door lock. According to the expert, the object is inexpensive, easy to use and does not burden luggage, which provides a greater feeling of security. Finally, she advised being careful when going out for a drink.
“If you decide to go to a bar to have a drink, always keep an eye on your drink. Don’t leave your drink lying around. Send your schedule to friends who are not traveling with you,” concluded the woman, pointing to the use of applications to automatically send GPS location.
