Six Eurowings flights will be canceled at Vienna airport on Friday due to the warning strike at Düsseldorf airport.

A day-long warning strike began on Friday morning at Düsseldorf Airport. The information was confirmed by a spokesman for the Verdi union. The union called on the 700 workers of the baggage and aircraft carrier Aviapartner to the strike, which began at 3:30 am and is due to end at 12:30 am on Saturday morning. Half of all flights at the airport have already been cancelled, the spokesman said. There would be delays.

According to the airport, a total of around 290 flights were planned for Friday. Of these, 101 – about a third – were cancelled, airport spokesman Marcus Schaff of the German Press Agency said in the morning. “As airlines have informed their passengers in advance about cancellations and alternative offers, the situation in the terminal is calm and quiet.”

Warning strike at Düsseldorf airport: flights in Vienna canceled

At Vienna airport, 6 Eurowings flights, three outbound and three return flights, were canceled today, a spokeswoman at the request of the APA said. Austrian Airlines (AUA) flies to and from Düsseldorf as scheduled. The eight flights, four outward and four return, were not affected by the strikes because an alternative handling partner was arranged on site to take care of the flights, the AUA press office said on request. Vienna Airport recommended passengers to check the status of their flight on the airline’s website in good time.

Alert strikes by employees of the airport company, ground handling services and aviation security in Berlin had already paralyzed passenger traffic at BER Airport on Wednesday. Flights between Berlin and Vienna were also affected. With the action, Verdi wanted to increase the pressure on the bosses before the next negotiations.
