BRUSSELS, Feb 17 (RHC) – The European Union (EU) on Friday froze assets of Russian organizations and figures worth 21.5 billion euros, the bloc’s justice commissioner Didier Reynders reported.

Reynders also said they are now working on the assets of the Central Bank of Russia and some transactions are already frozen.

On the other hand, the Council of the EU reported that the permanent representatives of the member states set up a special working group to seek the legislative mechanisms that would allow the use of the above immobilized assets for the benefit of Ukraine.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushkó the day before reiterated that his government would take the necessary countermeasures, calling any kind of act illegal that attempts to appropriate his country’s assets frozen by Europeans. (Source:PL)
