European forum in France to promote cooperation with Cuba

The event takes place as part of the traditional festival Fête de l’Humanité, which will take place from September 9th to 11th in the outskirts of Paris, with the confirmed participation of representatives from Spain and Italy, for which efforts are underway Germany to join Belgium and other countries, Fernández told Prensa Latina.

According to his statements, the peculiarity of the meeting is that, in addition to the condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that Washington has been imposing on Cuba for more than 60 years, joint initiatives are added to carry out concrete actions in favor of the socio-economic development of the beleaguered nation .

The goal of the forum is to create a European roadmap for cooperation that will allow access to available funds in institutions, stimulate the presence of companies on the island and participate in investments in their strategic sectors and reach the markets for Cuban includes exports, he explained.

CubaCoop will bring its experience of more than a quarter century of work in projects of local and national scale in the largest of the Antilles to the meeting of solidarity and cooperation, where they will share its development in areas such as water, sanitation, food security, renewable energies, culture and Sports.

One of the specific issues that we will propose is the common response at European level to the problem of the banks’ refusal to cooperate with the Caribbean country, a consequence of the extraterritorial effects of the US blockade, said Fernández.

The president of the French federation emphasized that Cuba needs political but also economic support.

We see it as a double priority to demand compliance with UN resolutions calling for an end to the blockade, while promoting cooperative projects in support of the island’s economic development, with the objective assumption that the fence will not end immediately , he stressed to Prensa Latina.

Fernández expressed confidence that the forum planned for the Fête de l’Humanité will allow progress towards both objectives and in particular towards the emergence of a common European action plan.
