EU Ukraine summit on 3 February in Kyiv

Contrary to initial information, the summit announced by the EU with Ukraine will not take place in Brussels but in Kyiv. The announcement was made by the Presidential Office in Kyiv on Monday night, following a phone call between the head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. At the meeting scheduled for February 3, the EU will not be attended by the heads of state or government, but only von der Leyen and the president of the EU Council, Charles Michel.

A spokesman for Michels had already announced this in December. As the summit will now take place in Kyiv, speculation about a possible new foreign visit by Zelenskyy after his surprise trip to Washington in December has also ended.

In the phone call, Zelenskyy and von der Leyen discussed, among other things, the situation on the fronts of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, according to the Presidential Office in Kyiv. Ukraine’s progress towards EU membership and the EU’s financial support for the country were also topics.
