England: Children go hungry, a couple risks jail

A couple from Durham, England face jail for starving and abusing children, often forcing them into hot showers.

Cheryl Pickles, 35, and Andrew Hadwin, 39, gave soap as food to malnourished children, to the point where the Angels for food had to walk more than 4 miles digging in supermarket bins for good mornings.

After a man the children confided in about the abuse they had suffered called police, the two suspects scribbled letters claiming they were written by the victims.

The letters, in which the children had to say they made up the allegations against the couple, read: “We’re sorry, we lied,” the Chron reported on Thursday.

The arrested couple were found guilty of child molestation and maltreatment after a marathon trial at Teesside Crown Court, the British tabloid added.
