Two motorists fought for their lives on Wednesday afternoon after a police chase that ended dramatically in Coteau-du-Lac, Montérégie.

According to the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), it all started when a Sûreté du Québec police officer attempted to intercept a vehicle for a traffic offense on the Monseigneur-Langlois Bridge, which spans the Saint-Laurent River between Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Coteau du Lac.

The driver tried to flee on the Chemin du Fleuve. However, he collided head-on with another car a few kilometers away.

“The driver of the suspect vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle were seriously injured. They were transported to a hospital in critical condition,” the BEI said.

Six investigators were tasked with investigating the circumstances that led to this accident.
