Elections 2022: Cássia Kis goes to the proBolsonaro demonstration 11/02/2022 Illustrated

Actress Cássia Kis, who stars in the soap opera Travessia, took part in a coup demonstration in Rio de Janeiro this Wednesday.

At 64, she is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation and has sparked controversy for positioning herself in favor of Jair Bolsonaro and the agendas the president is defending.

Kis has been politically active with his eldest son Joaquim through Centro Dom Bosco, a farright Catholic group that supports Bolsonaro.

In 2019, they filed a lawsuit against comedy group Porta dos Fundos and Netflix over the Christmas special, The First Temptation of Christ. They ended up in court in April last year.

Kis was also recently criticized for claiming that families made up of LGBTQIA+ people pose a threat and destroy lives in an interview with Leda Nagle. Globo even took a stand after the actress’ speech, saying the broadcaster is committed to diversity and inclusion and opposes all forms of discrimination.

The homophobic speech provoked reactions among artists. Xuxa, for example, said she was disappointed in the actress. “As long as the world exists, there will be adopted children, because pregnancy is not always desirable in a relationship between a man and a woman,” explained the presenter. Also in response to the statement, actress Lúcia Veríssimo posted a photo on Instagram of her kissing Kis.
