Eight dead in storms in Corsica and Tuscany

A total of eight people died in violent storms on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica and in Tuscany, Italy. In addition, there were a number of injuries in both regions in violent storms, it said on Thursday. The storms also caused damage and flooding in other parts of France and Italy.

As French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on a visit to Corsica on Thursday night, six people were killed in the storm on the island. 20 people were injured, this is a preliminary assessment. Gusts with speeds of over 200 kilometers per hour swept across Corsica. 45,000 homes were temporarily without electricity. Storms and flooded roads also hit other parts of France, such as Marseille.
