Egypt will turn the next climate summit venue into a green city

Cairo, August 18 – The Egyptian government is today promoting 35 ecological projects in the resort of Sharm El-Sheikh in the north-eastern Sinai Peninsula as part of preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP27) to be held there in November. .

This was announced by Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad to the official Mena news agency.

Fouad specified that the plan includes the construction of a park and the renovation of several hotels according to sustainability criteria, greater use of renewable energy sources and the creation of a new waste management system.

Our goal is to make Sharm El-Sheikh an ecological, sustainable and integrated tourist city, he stressed.

As part of the strategy, a fashion show featuring recycled clothing made from ecological materials will be held there for the first time to raise public awareness of the issue, he explained.

General Authority for Medical Care President Ahmed El-Sobky announced this week that the city will have the first green hospital in Africa.

He revealed that the center is registered with the Global Network of Green and Healthy Hospitals, an alliance of institutions in the sector striving to reduce their environmental footprint.

A few months ago, the South Sinai governorate pushed ahead with numerous construction projects in the city, including three solar power plants and fast-charging stations for electric vehicles.

In addition, they will construct an ecological community building, a shopping center and a banking complex in the El Nour neighborhood.

In late April, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources presented a plan to promote the conversion of city cars into gas hybrid vehicles. (Text and photo. PL)
