News anchor Edwina Bartholomew returns to Sunrise after welcoming son Thomas on maternity leave: “It’s nice to get back to work”
Sunrise news anchor Edwina Bartholomew returned to Brekky Central on Monday after five months of maternity leave.
The 39-year-old and her husband Neil Varcoe welcomed baby son Thomas while they were away. They are also parents to daughter Molly, who was born in late 2019.
Edwina, who was previously an itinerant weather presenter before being promoted to newsroom, said it was “lovely” to be back in the studio.

She was joined by co-hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch, while sports reporter Mark Beretta provided updates on the Australian swimmers at the 2022 Commonwealth Games live from Birmingham, England.
Meanwhile, weatherman Sam Mac came over live from the Gold Coast.
“It’s been such a lovely five months,” Edwina said.
“We had such a lovely time as a family so it was a bit sad to leave her at home but also nice to be back at work.”
She was joined at the news desk by co-hosts Natalie Barr (center) and David Koch (right).

Natalie added: “Eddie has come back to rest like most new moms! It can be a lot more relaxing at work than at home.”
Edwina and Neil announced the birth of their son in early March.
‘A little news from our family. Thomas Donald Elliott Varcoe born March 1, 2022,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a gallery of photos of the newborn.

“At such a difficult time for so many, many people, we hope Tom’s little face puts a smile on your face,” she added.
The journalist had filmed her last episode of Sunrise before going on maternity leave the previous month.
She wore a light blue top for the show, which many viewers took as an indication of the gender of her unborn child.
