Hundreds of Dutch students abandoned ski holidays in the French Alps after possible knockout poisoning. Utrecht’s roughly 450 students left after nine of them suddenly fell ill during après-ski and five had to be hospitalized, public broadcaster NOS reported. Those affected complained of tremors and memory loss, had to vomit or suddenly fainted. The incidents took place at the Risoul ski resort in the French Alps.

Were the drugs mixed in the drinks?

According to the NOS report, the students suspected that the drugs had been mixed with their drinks. Despite increased surveillance, more incidents occurred. According to the network’s research, dozens of students were affected on other trips to the city recently, and a specific bar was targeted. However, the operator denied the allegations that he was too concerned about safety and handed over to the police the camera recordings of his made available bar.

A national campaign to protect partygoers from knockouts is underway in France after visitors to clubs and discotheques increased complaints about the incidents. Specially trained police officers are available 24 hours a day on a hotline. In addition, clinics were recently instructed to perform a drug test for all people who are unconscious. Possible traces of knockout drops can no longer be detected later. © dpa
