One of the most common desires of many workers who are fed up with the boring workday of the week is to be paid for doing nothing. However, this happened to a finance manager in Ireland who complained that the company was being paid to hang around all day.

According to the Irish Independent newspaper, Dermot Alastair Mills receives 121,000 euros (almost 660,000 reais) annually from the Irish state railway Irish Rail. However, he complained that he spends the day just reading the newspaper and eating a sandwich at work. According to the complaint, the company pays him to do nothing on purpose.
Employee paid to do nothing, stalking claims
The finance executive claims he was sidelined and paid for doing nothing on purpose. The situation would be retaliation for him after he questioned the institution’s accounting in 2014. At that time he was responsible for checking a debt of 8 million euros and would have seen some problems.
Irish Rail, on the other hand, claims it has not taken any action due to the manager’s appeal against the state company’s accounts. Although he’s currently being paid to do nothing, Mills wants to feel useful at work again. “I would say if there was something that required me to work once a week, I would be thrilled.”
Speaking to the judiciary, the man says he was prevented from performing his duties and taking responsibilities for various tasks after claiming the accounts. One of the actions taken on by him was the preparation of reports for the government and other bodies. According to Mills, he is not even called to company meetings and is excluded from the training and opportunities offered.
The next hearing in the case is said to be in 2023. The man just doesn’t want to be paid to do nothing all day anymore.
