Cataloged by quite a few as something new, this action, which will take place on October 16, is not free from legal questions like everything that crops up on the Dominican spectrum in political affairs.

However, the organization’s leadership reiterated that the Central Electoral Committee (JCE) endorsed the process by abiding by its regulations. So much so that the computer equipment of the electoral authority is used in exchange with the population.

According to the head of the PLD Legal Affairs Secretariat, José Dantes, the trial is one of the essential purposes of political parties, particularly the constitutional purpose of ensuring citizen participation in the country’s processes.

He explained how the Party Law – on which the purple political movement is based – states in Article 10 that one of the purposes of organizations is to carry out complementary activities, not prohibited by law, to mediate between society and the state.

Article 13.2 states that the parties serve as intermediaries effectively channeling the legitimate interests of the Dominican people, and the procedure allows for the above.

Essentially, on October 16th, it will be possible to learn which of the six presidential candidates for 2024 most of the Perre enjoys greater sympathy and acceptance in an attempt to unite the citizen and party vote around them.

All members of the party and those newly registered 30 days before the date of the consultation can participate in the process, as well as Dominican citizens who are registered in the JCE registry and not in the registry of other political organizations.

Voting takes place individually, secretly and personally at the designated location.

Former Dominican President and President of the PLD, Danilo Medina, recently stated that everything is ready for the process. “We will come out of this stronger because there are no enemies or opponents here. Our applicants are colleagues and friends before they become competitors.”

And he reminded his followers that they have a proven calling to serve and a commitment to reaching those who need it most.

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

The PLD presidential candidates, who want to defeat the government of the Modern Revolutionary Party in the next election campaign, reach six, three women and three men.

They are Luis de León, Maritza Hernández, Francisco Domínguez Brito, Abel Martínez, Margarita Cedeño and Karen Ricardo.

De León is President of the Boschist Force and former Deputy Secretary of Education; Hernández, former Secretary of Labor; Domínguez, former environment minister and former attorney general; Martínez, current mayor of Santiago de los Caballeros; Cedeño, former vice president of the country and former first lady; and Ricardo, former deputy, among other responsibilities.

According to the organization’s secretary general, Charles Mariotti, the candidates met to agree on the details for the date of the trial and among them is the expression of the criterion of the dominant entity in this political organization.

A working lunch caught the notion that they had competitors but never opponents and showed they had worked closely together, the director added.

The truth is that each of the six contenders who win this organization’s presidential nomination will be entering the struggle for power for the first time, which could become a novelty.

Renowned journalist Felipe Ciprián wrote that there were notable differences in leadership and popular acceptance among the candidates.

However, if everything indicates that the President Luis Abinader will be the candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party and former President Leonel Fernández of the People’s Force, the purple candidacy will be the one that will determine the course of the 2024 presidential elections, he stressed.

The infamous consultation is just around the corner and as Ciprián said, only a miracle will prevent the mayor of Santiago and the former vice-president from picking up the vote of the citizens, but we have to wait for that moment.

In the 2020 election process, the PLD left power with the Gonzalo Castillo-Cedeño formula, motivated for various reasons. However, one of them was the withdrawal of Fernández from this organization and the formation of another political entity, which significantly weakened the leadership of power after ruling the country for 16 years.

Now they want to regain the place they lost by defeating the Formula Abinader-Raquel Peña, which along with six other allied parties won the last elections in the first round with 52.52 percent of the vote.
