Typically, on the last day of the draft, there is an exchange of late-round picks between NFL teams. But Tuesday, as players continue to endure the rigors of training camp, a trade in late-round picks began when the Dolphins took a sixth-round pick of 2023 from the Texans in exchange for Adam Shaheen and a seventh-round pick Acquired round of 2023 , announced the dolphins.

In Shaheen, the Texans get a 6-foot-7 tight end, which was the Bears’ second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he caught three touchdown passes before injuries limited him to just 14 games over the next two seasons. After being traded from Chicago to Miami in 2020, Shaheen hit a career-high three touchdown catches and helped the Dolphins set their first winning record in four years. He caught 12 passes last season while playing alongside Mike Gesicki, one of the NFL’s most prolific tight ends.

A native of Galena, Ohio, Shaheen played his college football at nearby Ashland, a Division II school. He caught 26 touchdowns in three seasons for the Eagles before giving up his senior year to draft .

In Houston, Shaheen joins a Texans depth chart that includes two tight ends, Pharaoh Brown and Brevin Jordan, who collectively caught 43 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns last season. The Texans’ offense is again led by quarterback Davis Mills, who completed almost 67 percent of his shots in his first season as Houston’s main starter.
