9And funk lost one of its greatest legends today: Romário Pimentel da Silva, DJ Mamutt, who for years made the “meeting of the masses” with the Pipo team, died this Wednesday morning (15) of natural causes in Engenhoca, in Niterói .

With the lines: “The terribly bad man is back, everyone run!” in the 90s he set the dancefloors on fire at funk dances.

He was one of the biggest supporters of the movement.

Jefferson Gomes, Jeffinho da Pita, 49 years old, representative of the old school dances in São Gonçalo, spoke about the great loss.

“The dances with DJ Mamutt were one of the first dances I went to outside of my neighborhood. I remember him with great pleasure. Mamutt was a simple guy and not a star. He played in front of 10 people and in front of crowds with the same humility. Today, June 15, the radio is crying. It’s a very big loss. The montages he made will go down in history forever,” said Jeffinho, who represents the Pita crowd.

Alex Serpa, dance representative for the Rua Feira audience at Barro Vermelho in São Gonçalo, speaks fondly of his memories with Mamutt.

“DJ Mamutt is an icon of the old school movement. He has danced many dances at Engenho Pequeno. With the return of the funk movement, he was always willing to help and empower. It’s a very big loss. We’ve lost an icon,” he commented.

DJ Mamutt joined Pipo’s in December 1980. Back then, the DJ was still called a DJ. He stayed with the team until 2002. Since then, he began to be more active as a community agent at Engenhoca, where he lived. In addition to being a musician, he also wrote and was preparing to publish a book.

On their official website, the family reported that his funeral is scheduled for tomorrow (16) at 11am at the Cemitério do Maruí in Barreto in Niterói.
