“Everything is tough,” Vanessa Boyer says from the start with a tight throat.

Last Wednesday, her boyfriend Maxime Therrien died while driving a truck at Carrière JFK in the Kahnawake Aboriginal community on Montreal’s south coast.

“He left that morning like he always does and said to me, ‘Bye, I love you, take care.’ He texted me at 8:40 a.m. and a few minutes later it happened,” says Ms. Boyer.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 8:47 a.m., peacekeepers confirmed in a statement released later in the day.

“An articulated dump truck went off a sloping roadway and crashed into the quarry,” added the local police department.

misunderstanding

Three days after the accident, Ms Boyer, who is six months pregnant, is still unaware of what might have led to the fatal fall of the father of her future child.

“I was told the investigation is ongoing. We don’t know yet how it happened. It would help any grief to know what happened, we can’t wait,” says the resident of Saint-Constant.

An investigation by the Commission on Standards, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) was launched into this accident.

However, it could be several months before we know the conclusions, said the organization’s spokesman, Nicolas Bégin.

As a worker in the sewage sector, Mr Therrien was employed by this supplier of crushed stone, concrete and asphalt for the winter season.

Help for the expectant mother

Saddened by this situation, friends have decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help Ms. Boyer, who is due to give birth to a baby girl next May.

“We know that the arrival of a new baby is very difficult without his father. […]”That’s why we decided to help Vanessa,” it said.

According to numerous statements on social networks, Mr Therrien, father of two children aged 9 and 12, has been described as a clown with a big heart.

“He put smiles on people’s faces, he was such a generous person. He would do anything for the people he loved, his family and his friends,” recalled Ms. Boyer.
