Joao Rojas and his club career

João Robin Rojas Mendoza (La Troncal, Ecuador) was born on June 14, 1989. He is the namesake of his striker and compatriot Joao Josimar Rojas, who plays for Monterrey but boasts a much longer tour with the Ecuadorian national team and also boasts a great record of respect for clubs on the continent. He made his professional debut in 2007 with his country’s Técnico Universitario.

He was named the best youth player in Ecuador’s Serie A in 2008 and 2009. He had a long stint in Mexican football where he wore the jerseys of Monarcas Morelia and Cruz Azul. In 2014 he won the CONCACAF Champions League with the light blues and in 2021 he won the Paulista championship with São Paulo. He also played with Talleres de Córdoba in the Argentine Premier League between 2017 and 2018.

Joao Rojas and the Ecuadorian soccer team

Joao Rojas played for the South America U-20 team in 2009 but made his debut with the Ecuador national team on 13 November 2008 in a friendly against Mexico. He was part of the team that took part in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and was also on the finals list that traveled to Brazil. Rojas made several starting appearances this season but added just a few minutes in the Tris’ debut against Switzerland.

The Ecuadorian striker played a total of 34 games with his team, in which he scored two goals. His last appearance was on March 29, 2015 in a friendly they lost 1-0 to Mexico. Despite no longer being called up for Ecuador, Joao Rojas has established himself in Mexican football and even holds that country’s nationality.

Joao Rojas’ debut in Peruvian football

Since Deportivo Garcilaso won against Binacional by chance on day 3 of Liga 1 2023, Joao Rojas only made his debut in Peruvian football in the 1-2 win over ADT. The Ecuadorian was a starting XI and played in the second row of midfield alongside his compatriots Jonathan Betancourt and Jorge Bazán. It is notable for also playing wingers and the band in general.

Joao Rojas was one of the best of his team and also scored the second goal after a pass from figure of the game Santiago Giordana. There was one game he managed poorly in a one-on-one with Ignacio Barrios, but from then on he showed his skills one on one – with a great second-half own pass – and contributed directly to the result so that Garcilaso added 6 of 6 in League 1.
