Denver Broncos let interim head coach Jerry Rosburg go

Denver Broncos let interim head coach Jerry Rosburg go – Mile High Report

According to ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, the Denver Broncos have decided to let interim head coach Jerry Rosburg go. He was acting as the team’s interim head coach for the last two games of the season when they fired Nathaniel Hackett after their embarrassing loss to the Los Angeles Rams at Christmas.

It was recently revealed that Rosburg was interested in the Broncos head coaching position. The report said he had a meeting with the team at the end of the year and that they valued the plan he had outlined and would consider going ahead with it. However. The interest was clearly one-sided, as the Broncos never officially interviewed Rosburg for the job. It has now become even clearer that they have informed him that he is no longer part of the coaching staff moving forward.

As we know, Rosburg was hired as assistant referee to former head coach Nathaniel Hackett. He struggled with game and time management and Rosburg was hired to help clean up. He served in that role until Hackett was eventually fired and offered the interim job after defense coordinator Ejiro Evero turned down the role.

In those two games under Rosburg, he made the Broncos play much better, nearly defeating the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead. He defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, a playoff team, in the season finale. However, it appears that Rosburg was not part of the new coaching staff’s plan and they decided to move on.

I think this report is an indication that the Broncos have narrowed down their finalists and none of those candidates wanted Rosburg on their staff. Fans and some media had hoped he would be considered for the head coaching job (which was never likely), or at least stay on as a special teams coordinator or advisor. That’s not going to happen, however, and we hope to see some more competent coaches join the Broncos coaching staff in the near future.

To update

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that Rosburg’s termination was just a procedural step and that the veteran coach is well regarded by the team and may return with a new staff.

This report comes after a previous report said that Rosburg would not be on staff going forward. Now Rapoport is keeping that door open, but as a staff member, not a head coach.

The media can’t even agree on Jerry Rosburg’s news, so who knows what the truth is? So Rosburg is not currently a member of the Broncos coaching staff, but may or may not be in the future.
