The 49ers were 17-16 behind the Seahawks in the third quarter when wide receiver Deebo Samuel made a 21-yard pass on a pass from Brock Purdy.

After Samuel was tackled, Seahawks safety Johnathan Abram appeared to sprain his ankle and a brief skirmish ensued before other players from both teams became involved. There was no game penalty, but the 49ers managed to get a go-ahead touchdown on the drive and then scored 18 more straight points to put the game out of reach.

Samuel said the action hurt and he “was close to losing it” but caught himself to avoid a penalty that would have hurt the team. He also said he felt the play became a rallying point for the team.

“I lay down for a bit because I almost lost my temper,” Samuel said of 49ersWebzone.com. “You can see the definition of our team from IGYB – I have your back. . . . At the end of the day I felt like this took our team up a notch and as you can see we just went out and made games.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he felt “this pissed our team off,” and running back Christian McCaffrey agreed that it “got everyone going” in what went from a tight game to a comfortable 49ers -Victory led.
