ANKARA, Turkey

The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck southeastern Türkiye early last week rose to 31,643 people, the country’s Emergency and Disaster Management Agency said on Monday, February 13.

The 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes with epicenters in Kahramanmaras province affected more than 13 million people in 10 provinces including Hatay, Gaziantep, Adiyaman, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye and Sanliurfa.

Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, were also affected by the earthquakes last Monday.

According to the AFAD, around 238,500 search and rescue workers are deployed on site.

So far, more than 158,000 people have been evacuated from earthquake zones, she added.

According to the Turkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 9,401 foreign employees from 77 countries work on site.

He added that 99 countries have offered assistance and seven more countries are expected to send rescue teams.

The whole world has expressed solidarity with Türkiye.

In addition to various rescue workers, blankets, tents, food, psychological support teams and more than 12,300 vehicles including excavators, tractors and bulldozers were also sent to the affected areas.

About 155,400 tents have been set up for the survivors, AFAD said.
