A 27-year-old man has been formally charged with the unpremeditated murder of his daughter, who was barely two months old, in October 2021.

The man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the child’s death at Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur-d’Issoudun in Chaudière-Appalaches.
The individual remained unmoved during his brief appearance via video conference. He didn’t say a word before returning to custody.
“Given the nature of the charges, the law provides that the Lord is automatically imprisoned. If he wants to regain his freedom, he needs to go to a Superior Court judge,” said Crown prosecutor Me Mathieu Rochette.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court again on March 3. The prosecutor would then have to submit further evidence. Until then, the accused cannot communicate with the mother of the deceased child.
The identity of the individual must not be disclosed in order to protect the identity of other children. The Lévis man arrested Thursday morning in the Sainte-Foy sector was the father of a blended family.
Recall that the two-month-old girl was found in critical condition on October 18, 2021 in a residential area of the municipality of less than 1,000 inhabitants west of Lévis. She succumbed to her injuries a week later. The little victim was born at the end of August.
The information collected at the time by the SQ Crimes Against Persons Investigation Service raised concerns about a criminal ramification in this case.
For a little over a year, investigators have therefore been able to collect evidence of a homicide.
A year earlier, a similar situation had occurred when the mother’s newborn lost his life under equally nebulous circumstances. The child was also two months old.
The coroner on file had determined that the cause of death of this first child was undetermined as the child’s constitution was normal.
