Deadpool 3: Ryan Reynolds confirms Emma Corrin is joining the cast

Ryan Reynolds has welcomed ‘The Crown’ star Emma Corrin to the ‘Deadpool Family’ and announced they will star in the forthcoming third installment.

Emma, 27, who played Diana, Princess of Wales in The Crown and co-starred in Lady Chatterley’s Lover alongside Jack O’Connell, has been confirmed as a new addition to the Deadpool 3 cast.

Ryan, 46, reprising the title role as the salacious anti-hero, tweeted: “New addition to the family! The Deadpool family, to be clear. It’s like real family, only with less swearing… Welcome, Emma Corrin!’

The Deadpool character first appeared on the big screen in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine before getting his own spin-off series.

Emma – who identifies as non-binary and uses her/the pronouns – is currently playing the title character in an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando at London’s Garrick Theater directed by Michael Grandage.

News of her role in the third Deadpool film comes after Ryan announced that Hugh Jackman will also be reprising his role as Wolverine.

Hugh, who played the Marvel character in eight X-Men films from 2000 to 2016, was last seen as Wolverine in the 2017 standalone film Logan.

He had a brief appearance in the second episode of Deadpool, but had previously discounted the possibility of a crossover film between his character and Reynolds’ unlikely superhero.

The second sequel will be directed by Shawn Levy, who worked with Ryan on the 2021 action comedy Free Guy and the 2022 newly released sci-fi film The Adam Project.

It’s another change of director for the Marvel franchise, with the original 2016 Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and the sequel by David Leitch.

It’s also the first Deadpool film since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which distributed the first two installments.

Ryan previously confirmed the Deadpool 3 film’s start date as September 6, 2024.

It comes after Hugh said that Deadpool and Wolverine hate each other.

The 54-year-old actor is set to join Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming Deadpool 3, reprising his role as Wolverine from the X-Men and Wolverine films, and Hugh says the two characters will have an aggressive relationship.

Speaking on the ‘Empire Film’ podcast, he said: “10 is really close, zero is reality, we are zero, we are opposites, we hate each other. I’m just speaking from my perspective [Logan is] frustrated with him, wants to be miles away from him, or wants to smack him on the head.

“Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this film, so I’ll probably smack him on the head a lot.”

Although Wolverine died in the 2017 Logan film, Hugh insisted his return in Deadpool 3 would not affect the events of Logan.

He previously explained to SiriusXM, “It’s all because of this device that they have in the Marvel world to move through timelines. Now we can go back because it’s science.

“So I don’t have to mess with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I’m probably thinking of the fans too.’

Meanwhile, director Shawn Levy has promised that Deadpool 3 will feature “hardcore” violence.

Shawn previously told Collider, “We write, rewrite, develop and prep Deadpool every day now.

“It’s so great to laugh every day. It’s so delicious to hear and write these scenes and make up these scenes where people just talk bad. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a Deadpool movie.

Levy confirmed that filming is expected to begin in May 2023 and explained that Hugh’s Wolverine involvement added to his enjoyment of the film.

The director, who worked with Ryan on Free Guy and The Adam Project, said: “I’m having so much fun and I’m not even on the set yet.

“I have to say developing a Deadpool movie is one of the funnest creative experiences of my life because it didn’t just get an R rating. He’s also so full of confidence, and that makes the writing very, very fun in a way that’s unique to the franchise.’
