BREAKING NEWS: DC appeals court rules Congress can access Trump’s tax returns in another legal sweep

A federal court ruled on Tuesday that House Democrats are legally allowed to collect Donald Trump’s tax returns.

“The DC Court of Appeals has just ruled that the law is on our side in the search for Trump’s tax returns,” the House Ways and Means Committee’s official Twitter account posted.

‘We expect to receive the requested tax returns and audit documentation promptly.’

It’s a major blow to Trump’s years-long court battle to protect his tax returns from any kind of scrutiny.

Late last year, Trump-appointed District Judge Trevor McFadden ruled that the Treasury Department can release the former president’s financial documents to House investigators.

The House Ways and Means Committee first requested Trump’s tax returns from the Internal Revenue Service in the first half of 2019, months after Democrats regained control of the lower house of Congress.

Tuesday’s ruling comes a day after Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, Florida retreat was raided by FBI agents as part of an independent investigation into the former president’s handling of classified White House documents.
