Shakira and her session with bizarre rap continue to be a talking point. The song, which had its world premiere last week, has already established itself as the number one Spanish-language premiere on YouTube. And there’s no doubt that it sparked endless comments and debates about the relationship between the Colombian singer and Gerard Piqué, a former soccer player to whom the song was dedicated. Nobody wanted to be left out of the discussion and sportswriter David Faitelson could be no exception.

Faitelson, used to having controversial points of view on almost any topic, also joined the debate on Shakira and Piqué. In a tweet, the communicator expressed: “The reality is that Shakira is so talented and intelligent that she has taken it upon herself to give Piqué a media status that football would never have given her.”

As expected, the comments triggered an intensive discussion between supporters and opponents. On the one hand it has been argued that Piqué would never have achieved so many lights simply because of his career as a footballer, and others said that this very path in football already guaranteed him to become famous at a high level.

It is worth going to the middle ground in this case. Piqué would have the usual glory for a player competing at his level. But it’s true, and there’s no denying it, that his marriage to Shakira led him to different standards of measuring fame. Not even players from Spain, who were his contemporaries and had the same or more influence than him, have his media impact: Casillas, Ramos, Xavi, Iniesta, Torres, Villa, Fábregas. They’re all well-known soccer players, and many of them are also involved in the world of entertainment, but none on Piqué’s level, and that, as Faitelson claims, is due to his relationship with Shakira, the most global singer to have existed since years in the industry, in the last twenty or thirty years.

For many years they were considered the perfect couple. As Shakira recounted in an interview for El Hormiguero, the two met while recording the song “Waka-Waka,” the hit of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Although she recorded her fragments separately, she later traveled to Madrid and there he met him whom he met. Later, already at the World Cup, according to Piqué, they started talking to TV3 about the weather in South Africa. And there Piqué told Shakira that there was only one way to meet during the sporting event: “I told him: if we have to go to the final to see you, we’ll get there and win it.”

Both formalized the romance the following year, 2011. And for a long time everything was perfect. They lived together until last year and had two children: Sasha and Mila.no. Finally, after various media outlets reported that Piqué had returned to live in his bachelor pad, Shakira announced that they were in the process of breaking up. A short time later, the soccer player publicly formalized his relationship with Clara Chía, a Spanish model.

Shakira released a couple of songs, Te felicito and Monotonía, in response to the media-reported infidelity, which none of them have yet confirmed — although the clues make it clear what happened — but the biggest hit came with his session with bizarre rap , the Argentine producer who dazzled the music world. The letter couldn’t be more explicit when it came to sending messages to Piqué. And wow, the memes went viral after launch. And also the discussions. In any case, there’s no doubt: Piqué’s fame wouldn’t be the same, in volume or in scope, without his relationship with Shakira.
