The 11month relationship between Maitê Proença and Adriana Calcanhoto came to an end. A source close to the couple confirmed the information to Folha de S. Paulo. According to the witness, the two returned separately from a trip to Europe. While Adriana returned to Brazil earlier to meet her schedule, Maitê stayed in European countries. The actress even visited the Venice Biennale there in early July.
According to Extra newspaper, the main reason the romance cooled off was a controversial statement by the actress to JP magazine when she said it would be easier if her friend was “a man”. Although Proença later tried to explain himself, the speech did not go down well with either the audience or his companion at the time. Accused of lesbophobia, Maitê even argued that “being in a relationship with a woman” would “speak louder than the comment of those who cause controversy where there is none”.
