247 The past came to light to condemn Dani Calabresa. The court of São Paulo sentenced comedians Dani Calabresa and Bento Ribeiro to pay social columnist Marcelo Bandeira R$15,000 in 2011 for a homophobic offense when they were both presenters of MTV Brasil, reports UOL journalist Rogério Gentile.

At that time, Calabresa and Ribeiro were presenting “Furo MTV”, a satirical newspaper of the channel, when they commented on TV Gazeta about a faux pas by moderator Claudete Troiano from the program “Manhã Gazeta”.

Bandeira, who took part in part of the show, was dubbed “the fag who works with her” and “gay helper” by the comedians.

The columnist filed a lawsuit against the comedians and the broadcaster, seeking BRL272,500 in damages for moral damages because he felt “humiliated and ridiculed” by the comment.

In his defense, Calabresa said gender jokes were common at the time and accepted in society. “Fag was a perfectly accepted term back then. You have to realize that humor isn’t just about relaxation, it also uses exaggeration, exaggeration, the obvious, the absurd as tools,” the comedian explained.
