DENVER — Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy had a “fight plan.” Certainly Denver Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett had exactly the same plan.

And just before the two clubs practiced together here in Denver on Thursday, McCarthy put the plan into words.

“It’s not harshness,” McCarthy said of “extracurricular” stupidity. “If you hit a shot in a game, you will be ejected. And players who do this will be kicked out of practice. …And no hitting the quarterback. … We are here for the right reasons.”

Yes but no.

As Mike Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth.”

The Denver Broncos hosted the Cowboys at their training camp in Centennial, Colo. on Thursday, and of course a scuffle ensued.

Actually by our count from the sidelines? There were six fights.
