Customers at a Montreal bakery are at risk of contracting hepatitis A

People who ate food purchased from Boulangerie Baladi at 2485 rue de Salaberry in Montreal between August 17 and 30 are at risk of contracting the hepatitis A virus.

This was announced by the Montreal Regional Public Health Department in a press release on Tuesday.

Hepatitis A can be transmitted by ingesting the virus present in water, food or drink, or on contaminated objects.

According to the Ministry of Health, symptoms can appear 15 to 50 days after infection. These may include nausea and vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and jaundice.

“In most cases, hepatitis A virus infection clears up on its own within 2 months. The body gets rid of the virus and produces antibodies that protect the person from any new hepatitis A virus infection,” the MSSS website said.
