The promotion of projects to change the energy matrix in Cuba towards the use of renewable energy sources is the main objective of the second edition of the International Renewable Energy Fairwhich will take place from June 22nd to 24th at the Pabexpo exhibition center in this capital.
Liván Arronte Cruz, Minister of Energy and Mines, explained at a press conference today that the event Initiatives will be presented that contribute to the energy sovereignty of the largest Antilles and the use of clean and environmentally friendly energies.
He explained that suggestions on the rational use of energy resources, which will have a positive impact on the quality of this service to the population, will be taken into account.
Arronte Cruz stressed that the fair will also promote foreign investment in the energy sector and support country-level plans related to three types of energy: solar energy, sugar cane biomass and wind energy.
He also stressed that projects related to the use of renewable sources for local development in the industrial and service sectors will be promoted.
The Head of Energy and Mining Department mentioned that universities and research centers will show their innovations and scientific and technical services related to the topic.
He said expectations of the fair include strengthening alliances and capacity to accelerate the transition process to energy autonomy to minimize current electricity generation costs.
In its seventh goal, the Agenda for Sustainable Development up to 2030 promotes the use of affordable and environmentally friendly energy in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thereby mitigate the effects of climate change.
Cuba aims to make a leap in renewable energy use during this period, based on harnessing its key natural assets such as sun, wind and sugarcane biomass.
