Covid today China, “wild” cluster in central Beijing

In China, mass tests against the coronavirus are taking place in Beijing’s most populous district, Chaoyang, due to a “wild” epidemic in the region, local administrator spokesman Xu Hejian reported at a news conference. As of today and for three days, the local population will therefore be tested for Covid-19, as the municipal health commission explained. The decision came after 166 “cluster infections” linked to a supermarket bar in Chaoyang were diagnosed from Thursday to yesterday. Of these, 145 were bar customers. Yesterday, 29 cases with local transmission and 22 asymptomatic cases were confirmed.

” At the moment there is still a risk of further spread. The most urgent task right now is to track down the source of the cluster and also to manage and control the risks,” Xu said, adding that Beijing must prevent the emergence of “epidemic boosters.”

Two buildings housing hundreds of residents in a Chaoyang complex have been quarantined after a single positive case. Large metal barricades were installed around the complex. Personnel in fireproof suits equipped with disinfectant entered the building, security and police officers were deployed at the exits. Several nearby businesses were temporarily isolated with police tape and security personnel arrived to block exits.
