Tom Brady has been away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since Aug. 11, and one Reddit user thinks he may have just discovered the reason for the quarterback’s mysterious absence from training camp.
Before we dive too deep into theory, it’s important to note what Bucs coach Todd Bowles said about Brady’s absence on Thursday.
Bowles attributed Brady’s absence to “personal things” and couldn’t give a specific return date for the 45-year-old.
Interestingly, the report also noted that Brady’s extensive timeout was approved weeks in advance by Tampa Bay. It’s unusual for NFL players to be given so much downtime.

Using these breadcrumbs, Reddit user u/CANN0NFIRE has come up with a wild but compelling theory to explain what Brady is up to: he’s filming for The Masked Singer.
Obviously, according to the show’s format, Brady would have to keep his status on the show under wraps, and the post points to two other pieces of evidence showing Brady could be making the hit show.
According to a potential viewers website referenced by the post, there are a number of tapings available for The Masked Singer from August 12-20.
With Brady definitely missing the Bucs’ second preseason game, the earliest he could do so could be on… May 22. Returning in August, which aligns pretty much perfectly with the show’s recording schedule.

Of course, should Brady’s football success spill over into show business, he would advance on the show and be subject to further taping, which is why Bowles can’t give a clear return date for the star.
Next, the post revolves around another piece of evidence: Brady agreed a deal with FOX — the network that airs The Masked Singer — to become their senior football analyst as early as May once he retires from playing.
And as u/CANN0NFIRE notes, there is precedent for Fox football commentators doing the show.
Joe Buck appeared on the show earlier this year when he was the network’s lead color commentator, and Terry Bradshaw did the show in 2019.
