Costa Rica conducted more than 90 percent of the programs with IAEA

San Jose, January 18 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rica has achieved more than 90 percent execution of technical cooperation programs with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2022, reported today Alejandro Solano, Ambassador to Vienna, Austria.

According to the report received by the Permanent Mission of Tica before the international organizations in this European country, the estimated amount was $452,000, which was used in various areas, including the Ministry-sponsored strengthening of the national infrastructure for radiological security of health.

Likewise in the implementation of hybrid tomography technology for cancer patients at the Center for Research in Atomic, Nuclear and Molecular Sciences of the University of Costa Rica (UCR).

Also in a project to protect the aquifers of the Center for Research in Environmental Contamination of the UCR and in an initiative for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, which is sponsored by the Faculty of Physics of the National University.

The Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the IAEA’s technical cooperation program is managed by the International Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, the Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications through the national liaison officers.

Solano reiterated that the good execution of the projects not only results in general benefits for the people of Costa Rica, but also allows new programs to be added to the portfolio.

He stressed that Costa Rica attaches great importance to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, which has a significant number of civil and scientific applications that improve the quality of life of Costa Ricans through these projects.

The Ambassador announced that the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica in Vienna, Austria, is preparing to support the programs that will be developed this year in order to continue to achieve excellent levels of implementation.
