Controversial video an influencer throws a lobster from the top

Controversial video: an influencer throws a lobster from the top of a waterfall to ‘save’ it.

A video published on Wednesday by a Quebec influencer on the TikTok platform provoked strong reactions.

The pictures show Jay Fortin buying a live lobster from the grocery store before heading to the bridge overlooking Montmorency Falls, where he tosses the crustacean to ‘save’ it.

“Yes! Another good deed done,” he is heard saying after dropping the animal from the top of the slide.

The video, which has been viewed more than 130,000 times on the social network and upset many users, was taken offline on Thursday. Many called it animal cruelty.

For digital strategist Valérie Beaudoin-Carle, influencers must increasingly use originality to thwart platform algorithms, which sometimes leaves room for certain slips.

“Platforms have also evolved, so influencers have no choice but to follow this pace. Algorithms are becoming more and more complex, so content creators and influencers are looking for different ways to get clicks and get more engagements, because the more engagements you have, the more you may search for contracts, the more expensive your publications will be if you want to enter into cooperations. »

Jay Fortin had not responded to TVA Nouvelles interview requests at the time of writing.
