‘Complete fantasy’: Prince Harry’s army instructor dismisses claim of ‘suicide’ training flight in Spare | Mint – mint

Prince Harry’s memoir Spare has endured multiple rebuttals, denials and contradictions since its release on January 10, 2023. The book has managed to remain a part of the societal buzz. The biographical writings, rife with controversy and controversial reports, have found their latest refutation in an army instructor who refuted Prince Harry’s claim of the “suicide” training flight.

In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry spoke about his journey as a member of the army. In the report he mentioned a dramatic account describing a “suicide” training flight while he was in the military.

Prince Harry served in the military for ten years. During this time he undertook two tours of Afghanistan. During this time he also rose to the rank of captain. Prince Harry is also credited with inventing the Invictus Games – an international sporting event for wounded, injured and ill service members and veterans.

Harry had said in his memoirs that an army instructor had intentionally jammed their Slingsby T67 Firefly propeller plane without warning. However, according to a news report, former Sergeant Major Michael Booley has countered the claim that every aspect of this training is discussed with the trainees beforehand.

Ex-Sergeant Booley was quoted by the Sunday Mirror as saying: “I’m amazed by this. Even in shock.”

Booley’s claims suggest the memoir is more of a testimony, with likely interpretation by Prince Harry himself, which could be factually inaccurate.

Recalling the incident in his memoir, Prince Harry writes: “On one of our first flights together, Booley threw the plane into a stall without warning.

“I felt the left wing buckle, a sickening sense of disorder, of entropy, and then after a few seconds that felt like decades, he retrieved the plane and straightened the wings.

“I stared at him. What the hell -? Was that an aborted suicide attempt?’

“No,” he said softly. That was the next step in my education.”

Booley dismissed the Duke of Sussex’s claims, saying: “While the book compliments me, the recollection of the stakes and lessons is unfortunately inaccurate.

“It is important to emphasize that nothing comes as a surprise in the cockpit.

“Each mission is thoroughly briefed beforehand, every single aspect.”

“The mission will be flown exactly according to this order. The only time there are surprises is later in the curriculum, not as the book states, when emergencies are introduced. “

“Engine failures are of course practiced before the first solo in case the student suffers one,” as quoted by the Sunday Mirror.

Nearly two weeks ago, another claim by Prince Harry hit the news, sending “Brits into a doldrums” in which the Duke of Sussex claimed in his memoir that he had killed 25 Taliban while in Afghanistan.

Prince Harry had claimed he was responsible for firing rockets from an Apache gunship during the war in Afghanistan.
