The sporting action in Birmingham drew an impressive 550,000 spectators in the country’s major centers in Thursday’s nightly ratings battle.

No entertainment program on any of the competing networks came close to these numbers.

It scored a solid 493,000 fans in the subway ratings on Thursday, but ABC’s Q&A performed poorly overnight.

Just 210,000 viewers in the major centers watched as Stan Grant moderated the discussion of a new CSIRO report on societal “megatrends.”

The evening’s panellists included suffragette Hannah Diviney, ALP Senator Jenny McAllister and Green Party Senator Sarah Hanson-Young.
