The House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 storming of the United States Capitol appears to be at odds over whether the panel should direct criminal referrals to the Justice Department regarding Donald Trump or anyone else. . On Monday, committee chair Bennie Thompson said, “That’s not our job.” However, committee vice chair Republican Liz Cheney said the committee had not reached a conclusion on possible criminal referrals. Elaine Luria, another official member of the committee, tweeted, “If criminal activity has taken place, it is our responsibility to report that activity to the Department of Justice.”
