Clinical studies are now starting in the US for a combined corona and flu vaccine from German biotech company Biontech and its partner Pfizer.
The combined vaccine candidate combines the already approved corona vaccine against BA.4 and BA.5 from the two companies Biontech and Pfizer with a flu vaccine candidate from Pfizer, which is currently being tested in a phase 3 clinical trial.

180 people in the US aged 18 to 64 will participate in the phase 1 study with the combination vaccine, and the first subject has already been vaccinated this week. “By combining both indications in a vaccine approach, we want to offer people an efficient way to immunize themselves against two serious respiratory diseases,” says Ugur Sahin, head of Biontech.
