Bogotá, December 6 (Prensa Latina) Colombian President Gustavo Petro today reiterated that the peace process with the National Liberation Army (ELN) will lead to another with other formations.
“It is a new, unprecedented experience closely linked to organizations of armed youth involved in drug trafficking in slums of the city of Buenaventura, who are the ‘Shottas’ and the ‘Spartans’,” the ruler clarified.
It is, he explained, “an urban pacification process and has more to do with procedures to obtain justice, not without a commitment from the state to solve very deep social problems that are very public knowledge and are located in the city of Buenaventura.” .
At the end of an Extraordinary Security Council held at the Defense Ministry’s headquarters in Bogotá, he emphasized that the possibility of dialogue today is not limited to the cessation of military operations.
Petro confirmed that the rest of the position is that military action will continue until there is real willingness to negotiate.
In this council, special measures were taken following an attack on public authority in the department of Cauca.
The Head of State deplored the deaths of members of the army in Cauca, who are young people between the ages of 18 and 20, in a planned act after which the armed forces will take action.
The ELN resumed the table of talks in search of a peace deal with the government of Petro on Monday, November 21, at Cerro Ávila in Caracas, Venezuela.
