Both runways have since reopened, according to the airport operator. Some demonstrators gathered there.
Berlin airport temporarily suspended flight operations on Thursday due to a protest by “state-of-the-art” climate activists. The two runways at the capital’s airport were reopened at night, after interruption by climate activists. Some protesters had also previously recorded themselves. Around 4:00 pm, they gained access to the airport premises at two points.
“Due to unauthorized access by several people, both BER runways are currently closed,” wrote the airport operator on the website and on social media. Several machines went to other airports, others became waiting patterns, as can be seen on the flight observation site Flightradar24.
