Chrystia Freeland reflects on the molestation episode

During her first press conference since last Friday’s harassment in Alberta, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland insisted the people there were “friendly” and that she would be welcomed there with open arms.

“For me, the most important thing is the generous and warm welcome I received in Alberta, the province where I was born and raised,” she told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

She conceded that “yes, it was an awkward moment for [elle] and it wasn’t fair what happened,” but stressed that it wasn’t representative of the region.

The government number 2 has announced that it will not change its course of action. “I always follow the recommendations of the RCMP,” she said without elaborating.

Details of security measures taken by government officials are often kept secret as a precaution.

Ms. Freeland toured Alberta last week. In the city of Grande Prairie, she was verbally abused by a bearded colossus as she entered an elevator with members of her bodyguard.
