Back then, some players’ husbands could not join the crowd of 2,500 at the Kenilworth Road site in Luton Town because they could not afford transport.

The game only had halves of 35 minutes instead of 45 and used a smaller ball than that played by men.

It comes after Christine stepped out amid her split from husband Paddy.

The couple have been living “separate lives” for months and their wedding anniversary in June wasn’t an event without either of them posting on social media about the occasion.

They confirmed their split via Instagram earlier this month, but announced they will continue to live together for the sake of their three children with autism.

Christine and Paddy share twins Penelope and Leo, eight, and Felicity, six, who have all been diagnosed with the developmental disorder – and insist their upbringing remains their top priority.

In a joint statement, they wrote: “We had no plans to share this publicly until we were ready, but given the lack of privacy in our personal lives, we have no choice but to clarify this.

“Some time ago we made the difficult decision to separate, but our main focus, as always, is to continue to love and support our children.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but we carry on as the best parents we can be to our three beautiful children. We will always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily together in our family home.

“We hope that this will now put an end to any unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our privacy.

“Although we work in the public domain, we kindly ask that you respect our desire for privacy in this matter. We will not comment further.’

A source told Web: “Paddy and Christine have given everything for their marriage over the years.

“Unfortunately, they have made the difficult decision to separate because of their young family they will continue to raise together.

“It’s no secret within their inner circle that it’s been a difficult few years for them as a couple, but they’re still very supportive of each other and will continue to be during their breakup.”
