Choco Taco Maker ‘discusses next steps’ as fans mourn cessation

  • Klondike announced earlier this week that it would stop making Choco Taco.
  • People were not exactly happy about the discontinuation of the nostalgic ice cream enjoyment.
  • Klondike cryptically says it’s “discussing next steps” after being surprised by how many fans said they’d miss the Choco Taco.

It’s been a rough week for Choco Taco fans, but maybe there’s still good news.

Klondike announced Monday it was discontinuing the iconic ice cream taco after nearly 40 years.

“We have experienced an unprecedented increase in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very difficult decisions to ensure nationwide availability of our entire portfolio,” the company said said back then.

But fans were upset, and the news had such a trending moment that Google added a banner to searches for “choco taco” that included emojis of ice cream, tacos, and a tombstone marking the treat’s existence from 1983 to the present day.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian even tweeted that he wants to buy the rights to the product to keep it alive.

But now things are looking up again: The Choco Taco can live on, at least for a while.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Klondike said it was shocked by the reactions to the news, posting a picture of a Choco Taco holding a press conference and saying, “I want to address the rumours: I’m really getting hired, it’s not a PR gag . I knew you loved me, but not THAT much. As I reflect on this outpouring of support, we’ll discuss next steps, including what to do with the last 912 (we counted) tacos at HQ. Stay tuned … “

The cryptic message has fans wondering what the “next steps” will be, despite Klondike’s news that the dessert taco is truly being discontinued.

Only time will tell – let’s hope Klondike reveals his plans before the last of the Choco Tacos melt away. (Too early?)
