On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, China’s vice president called on the US to do more to improve relations between the two countries. In a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Han Zheng said that China’s development is an asset and not a risk for the United States, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported today.
Han expressed hope that China and the US can meet “halfway” and show more understanding. The US State Department called the conversation “open and constructive”.
Blinken said in a statement that the US wanted to use diplomacy to advance US interests and values and debate differences. According to US information, the two politicians spoke about Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Taiwan issue and North Korea.
Han leads the Chinese delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York. As vice president of the People’s Republic governed by the Communist Party, he has a more representative role.
