Body parts of two children were discovered in suitcases sold after a sale auction in New Zealand. After the discovery last week, the first autopsies were carried out, police in New Zealand’s metropolis Auckland said on Thursday. These would have shown that the human remains were two primary school age children.
It was “extremely shocking news,” the police statement said. The bodies of the two children have been in the suitcases for several years, Commissioner Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua told a news conference on Thursday. There are still “many unanswered questions” about the circumstances of the death. The identity of the children can only be determined after a complete autopsy and DNA testing.
There is no suspected connection to the bags’ buyers, police said. According to information from local newspapers, it is a family from southern Auckland who bought the bags during a warehouse sale last week.
