Chiefs TE Travis Kelce suddenly doubtful for AFC championship game with back injury

The Kansas City Chiefs may be without Travis Kelce for Sunday’s AFC championship game.

Although Kelce was in full training on Friday, he was late in being included in the team’s injury report. He was listed as a questionable for their game against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a back injury, although details of that injury are not yet known.

While it seems likely he’ll play barring setbacks until Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs would miss a large chunk of their offense should Kelce be sidelined.

Kelce had 1,338 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns this season, his ninth in Kansas City. He had 98 yards and two touchdowns on 14 catches in last week’s divisional round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Chiefs also listed receivers Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson as questionable. Hardman is struggling with a pelvic problem and Watson missed Friday’s practice session with illness.

The good news for the Chiefs, however, is that quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears to be completely healthy following his ankle injury last week. After briefly leaving the game against the Jaguars with a sprained ankle, Mahomes trained full week and was not on Friday’s injury report.
