Chavismo reaffirm support for Polisario Front in Congress

Caracas, 14 January (EFE).- The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) confirmed this Saturday its support for the Polisario Front, the Western Sahara liberation movement, in a congress proposing a change of vision to reflect the “superiority Venezuela to face Morocco, with which it has been fighting a low-intensity war since the end of the ceasefire in 2020.

The Chavista deputy Gabriela Peña took part on the second day of the XVI, according to a press release published by the PSUV. Polisario Front Congress, where she expressed her support for “the cause of this noble, courageous and indomitable people in their tireless struggle to defend their independence and sovereignty”.

Peña regretted that the United Nations had not commented on “Morocco aggravating the conflict”.

The Polisario Front opened its 16th congress on Friday to renew its leadership and a strategy in which it proposes “intensifying the armed struggle” against Morocco.

“We will not engage in any peace process that deviates from the original plan of the United Nations and the African Union and consequently does not guarantee full respect for the inalienable right to self-determination and independence (of Western Sahara),” said Polisario Secretary-General Brahim Gali. at the opening of the congress.

More than 370 international guests and 2,200 Sahrawi congressmen are taking part in the meeting, which is being organized for the first time since the ceasefire with Morocco broke in 2020.

Under the motto “Intensify the armed struggle to expel the occupiers and assert sovereignty”, the convention proposes a change in vision to counter the “superiority” of Morocco with which it has been waging a low-intensity war since the ceasefire broke on November 13 .2020.

At the preparatory meetings, Congressmen agreed that “combat experience” should be a prerequisite for renewing the post of secretary-general, which Gali has held since 2016. EFE
