He has become a social media sensation, striking shirtless yoga poses in a kilt against the glorious backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

Now the yoga teacher Finlay Wilson – also known as “Kilted Yogi” – is to lead the classes after royal appointment.

The 36-year-old, who is an ambassador for the Prince’s Foundation, will host the first “luxury wellness retreat” at Dumfries House for yoga fans in King Charles, East Ayrshire, next weekend.

At the £500-a-head event, Mr Wilson and husband Alan Lambie will conduct sessions in yoga, meditation and myofascial release – a form of self-massage using tennis balls.

A sound bath, a cooking class and walks around the estate will also be offered as part of the event. Charles bought Dumfries House and estate for £45million in 2007 with the help of a non-profit consortium.

He made it a base for a number of educational and training opportunities, particularly in traditional handicrafts, that are open to the public.

The royal believes yoga should be part of a holistic approach to health care, while his wife Camilla has reportedly tried it too. They haven’t practiced with the Kilted Yogi, but Mr Wilson from Dundee says he shares Charles’ approach to wellness, art and Scotland.

He started yoga 17 years ago after having surgery on his legs for a rare condition. He said: “It’s been a long road. It wasn’t all smiles and rainbows. When I first started yoga, I really hated it. But obviously I love it now.’ His website and Instagram feed are full of photos of him contorting his body at beauty spots. The snaps have been viewed more than 100 million times worldwide.

He said, “Kilted Yoga combines my passion for yoga and Scottish heritage.” And, fascinatingly, at one point he performed a revealing handstand that suggests he’s a follower of the Scottish tradition of kilt wearers spurning underwear.
